Spanish Driving Licence Exchange *UPDATE*

La Unión Europea ha negociado con Reino Unido un Acuerdo de Retirada que habilita un período transitorio durante el cual se mantienen los derechos de los ciudadanos conforme al acervo comunitario, acuerdo que ya ha sido aprobado tanto por las instituciones europeas como británicas.

Por lo tanto, la normativa europea sobre permisos de conducción continuará aplicándose a los permisos expedidos por el Reino Unido hasta el final del periodo transitorio, previsto para el 31 de diciembre de 2020.

En consecuencia, los permisos de conducción, válidos y en vigor, expedidos por las autoridades británicas habilitarán a sus titulares a conducir en nuestro país hasta esa fecha. A partir del 1 de enero de 2021, será de aplicación la normativa general sobre permisos de terceros países (países no comunitarios) y los permisos expedidos por las autoridades británicas habilitarán para conducir en España durante seis meses desde la entrada de su titular en España o desde la fecha de obtención de la residencia legal.

Si eres titular de un permiso británico y tienes pensado residir en España una vez finalizado el año 2020, te recomendamos que solicites el canje, la renovación o la sustitución de tu permiso por un español equivalente. Para hacerlo, deberás pedir cita previa a través del siguiente enlace.

¿Se reconocerán en Reino Unido los permisos de conducir españoles?

Según los términos del Acuerdo de Retirada, la normativa europea sobre permisos de conducir continuará aplicándose en el Reino Unido hasta el 31 de diciembre de 2020. Por lo tanto, es posible seguir conduciendo y canjear el permiso español hasta esa fecha. A partir del 1 de enero de 2021, cambiará el tratamiento que las autoridades británicas den a nuestros permisos de conducir. Introduction Replacing a Uk Licence to a Spanish one before the 31st December 2020

Directive 96/47 of the Council of the European Union approved a new community driving license on a plastic card. With this new format, the quality and security of this supporting document was substantially improved. This new document standardized the content and incorporated as new elements the integration of the holder's photo and signature in the document, in such a way as to prevent the manipulation of these key elements in the holder's identification. The generation of the document requires a support element where the photo and the signature of the owner are collected and those data proving the identity of the owner ( DOI , Name and Surname) and the necessary data that allow the support element to be matched with the original procedure of the expedition. The administrative procedures that give rise to a new document are:

• By issuance, in the case of obtaining an authorization for a new class after examination.

• By extension of validity, when conducting the review of the classes and permits, the information of the driver is updated, being of special relevance to keep the photo of the driver in line with his physical appearance.

• By Exchange, when exchanging a permit, it is issued in plastic format.

• By Duplicate Since last May 4, 2009 a permit can be issued in plastic format, for those permit holders who possess it in Pink Cardboard format.
